Mizanur Rahman, 44, who sustained severe burns in a mobile charger explosion at a house in Savar’s Ashulia, died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery.
He died on Sunday at around 2pm while in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the institute. The institute’s resident doctor Shaon Bin Rahman confirmed the death.
He said the patient was admitted to the hospital around 3am the same night. He had suffered burns to 95 per cent of his body.
A neighbour who took him to the hospital, Md Robiul Islam, said a loud explosion was heard at a nearby house around midnight. A fire broke out inside the room soon after. Hearing screams, he entered the house and found the man severely burnt.
Other neighbours rushed in and poured water on his body. He was then taken quickly to the Burn Institute.
Robiul said “Everything inside the room was scattered. The mobile phone and charger were found completely broken. The victim lived alone in the room. He had been sleeping after charging his mobile phone at night. The incident is suspected to have been caused by an explosion from the charger.”
The deceased’s brother-in-law, Zahirul Islam, said Mizanur was from Langalmora village under Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district. His father’s name was Siddiqur Rahman. He lived in the Savar’s Ashulia area where he ran a garment business.
His wife and four children live in their village home.
