Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) winning coach Mizanur Rahman Babul, who led Fortune Barishal to consecutive titles in the last two seasons, could take charge of Chattogram Royals if negotiations are successful, it has emerged. Babul, who played a key role in Fortune Barishal’s success, will not be coaching his former franchise this season, as the team has opted not to participate in the tournament.
Fortune Barishal also failed to secure a replacement franchise, leaving the experienced Bangladeshi coach seeking a new team. Discussions are reportedly underway with Chattogram Royals, and the final decision is yet to be confirmed. The Royals are also in talks with several domestic players, including a national team opener, as well as a number of international recruits.
The fifth edition of the BPL will feature five franchises, confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), including Dhaka Capitals, Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors, Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Titans. While team ownership may change, the names of the franchises will remain the same.
The player draft is scheduled for the third week of November, with teams looking to finalise their squads beforehand. Sylhet Titans have already secured national team spinners Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Nasum Ahmed, while Rajshahi Warriors are reportedly in advanced talks with Tanzeed Hasan Tamim. The franchise is also negotiating with Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan and another Sri Lankan cricketer.
