Police recovered the body of a young man from a jute field in Boalmari upazila on Wednesday morning, two days after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Touhid Mia, son of Abdul Kaiyum Mia of Bhatpara village.
Officer-in-Charge of Boalmari Police Station Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter and said the body bore serious head injuries and that preliminary findings suggest it was a murder.
According to police and locals, Touhid had been missing since Monday after leaving home. His family became concerned when they could not find him and his mobile phone was switched off from midnight that night.
Touhid, who worked on a ship, had recently returned home for the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
Local farmers discovered the body in a jute field in Bhatpara village under Shekhar union around 7:30am and informed police.
Touhid’s relatives alleged that he was murdered and demanded the arrest and punishment of those responsible.
OC Anwar added the body has been sent to the hospital for autopsy and an investigation is underway.
