Miscreants opened fire at a business establishment in Badda, Dhaka, after the owner reportedly refused to pay extortion money.
The incident occurred near the election office of National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam.
Mahbub Alam, head of NCP’s election media sub-committee, clarified that the shooting took place beside the party’s organisational office in Ward No. 38 and was not linked to Nahid Islam’s office.
He also said there appears to be no political connection to the attack.
Badda Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Kazi Md Nasirul Amin confirmed the incident, saying that the assailants fired two rounds at the establishment on Wednesday night after being denied the demanded money.
Police are investigating the case and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
