Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister HE Bariş Akıncı has met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister arrived at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan at 2pm on Monday. The Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ramis Şen, was also present with him.
Members of the party’s Standing Committee Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Acting Chairperson’s Advisor Humayun Kabir, and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, which lasted over an hour, various issues were discussed, including the development of relations between the two countries, trade, commerce, investment, and the upcoming National Parliament elections.
The Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister arrived in Dhaka in the morning for a two-day visit.
After the meeting with the BNP Secretary General, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said at a news briefing that the long-standing friendship between the two countries, which dates back to the time of Ziaur Rahman, was discussed, including the important role played by Turkey along with Ziaur Rahman in the OIC. There was discussion on strengthening the OIC in the future.
There was talk about strengthening relations between the two and increasing cooperation in all fields. The issue of Turkish investment in various sectors in Bangladesh was also discussed, as well as how to further strengthen the cultural bond between Turkey and Bangladesh. a
“President Ziaur Rahman named the road ‘Kemal Atatürk Avenue’,” Khosru said. He stated that Turkey has expressed interest in increasing investment in Bangladesh. Emphasis was placed on further strengthening the chambers of commerce of both countries.
‘Waiting for the election’
In response to a question about relations, Amir Khosru said, “There was discussion about Bangladesh’s election. Turkey is also waiting for that election. They also want to see the ‘Bangladesh of tomorrow’ after the election, and we have discussed how to strengthen relations with that government. Like everyone else, Turkey has expressed interest in working with the new government that comes through the election.”
Regarding the “proposal to establish a Joint Defense Industry”, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The cooperation that exists between the Turkish government and Bangladesh in the defense sector will continue. They are in discussions with Bangladesh to set up a Joint Defense Industry. Perhaps they will have discussions with the government tomorrow. We have told them that our cooperation in that regard will continue.
The fourth Foreign Secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and Turkey will be held in Dhaka on Tuesday. The Turkish side will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister HE Mr. Bariş Akıncı.
He will meet with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, and the Adviser to the Ministries of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources, Road Transport & Bridges, and Railways, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.
