BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has pledged to run a clean and respectful election campaign, saying criticism of rivals is part of politics but false or misleading statements are unacceptable.
Speaking at an election views-exchange meeting organised by the Motaleb Plaza Flat Owners’ Association on Thursday afternoon, he said honesty would guide his campaign.
“We are true Muslims and we do not lie,” he said, adding that faith and belief in Allah mean falsehood has no place in elections.
The BNP leader said his campaign would focus on his record and future plans, rather than resorting to derogatory remarks against leaders or candidates of other parties.
As a candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, he urged voters to cast their ballots honestly, referring to the sacrifices made by citizens to secure the right to vote.
He said he would avoid trouble or quarrels during the election campaign, while noting that he would defend himself if necessary after the polls.
Mirza Abbas thanked local residents for their support and sought their votes.
