Ganosamhati Andolan-nominated candidate Taslima Akhter has pledged to turn the Dhaka-12 constituency into a role model of transparency and accountability.
Speaking during election campaigning and public outreach in the Tejkunipara and Kolmilata Market areas, including the adjacent Hondagoli area, in Dhaka on Thursday, she said her 12-point election manifesto goes beyond pre-poll pledges.
She said it sets out a clear roadmap to address local problems.
Taslima said the manifesto also proposes the formation of a citizen council to ensure accountability to voters.
During the outreach, she exchanged views with local voters on key problems in the area and possible solutions.
After the programme, Taslima Akhter said most political parties had failed to nominate an adequate number of women candidates in line with the commitments of the July charter, while some parties had not nominated any women candidates at all.
In contrast, she said, Ganosamhati Andolan has set an example by nominating women candidates at a rate higher than the proportion outlined in the July charter.
She expressed hope that voters in the upcoming election would play an effective role in ensuring proper representation of women in the Jatiya Sangsad by voting for women candidates.
Her election campaign and rally will be held in the Nakhalpara-adjacent area on Friday.
