Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has deactivated the verified official page of Mufti Amir Hamza, a prominent Islamic speaker and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Kushtia-3 (Sadar) constituency.
The removal of the page was confirmed on Thursday afternoon via a press release issued by Enamul Huq, the ameer of the Kushtia city unit of Jamaat.
According to the press release, the page had been the target of planned fake copyright strikes and cyber-attacks by an “organised evil force” over the last few days. The party clarified that the deactivation was not due to any policy violations but was the result of “malicious false allegations and fake reporting.”
The statement further suggested that the move was motivated by jealousy regarding Hamza’s growing popularity and public support. “Even if a page is removed from Facebook, Amir Hamza cannot be removed from the hearts of the people,” the press release added.
Enamul Huq stated that Meta has already been contacted to recover the page, and the process of presenting necessary information and evidence is currently underway. He also mentioned that the process of filing a General Diary (GD) at the Kushtia Model Police Station is in progress.
Supporters and well-wishers have been urged to remain patient and vigilant, and not to be misled by fake IDs, rumours, or disinformation.
