A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, along with 27 other accused in a sabotage case registered at Ramna Police Station in 2013.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman delivered the verdict on Monday by following a court hearing.
Other BNP leaders acquitted include Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, leader Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, former Chhatra Dal President Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel, General Secretary Habibur Rashid Habib, Jubo Dal Organising Secretary Ishaq Sarkar, and Jubo Dal leader Hamidur Rahman Hamid.
According to the case details, on 2 March 2013, BNP brought out a procession in the Shantinagar area under Ramna Police Station, demanding the restoration of the caretaker government.
The demonstration reportedly escalated into clashes involving BNP activists, police personnel, and supporters of the Awami League.
Following the event, Sub-Inspector Md Ashfaq Rajib Hasan of Ramna Police Station filed the case, which later led to a charge sheet against 29 individuals.
