Several newly appointed ministers have outlined key priorities for the government, pledging economic growth, public welfare, and enhanced services across sectors, during visits to their constituencies and major cities this week.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, speaking during his first visit to Chattogram after joining the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, emphasised the need for collective efforts to drive development and economic progress.
“A democratically elected government has assumed office. The greatest challenge before us now is meeting the expectations of the people,” he said. “We must move ahead through sustained development and economic growth.”
Highlighting Chattogram’s strategic and economic significance, Khosru said the city’s development is closely linked to national progress. “Development of Chattogram means development of Bangladesh,” he noted, stressing that an integrated and coordinated approach is essential to unlock the region’s full potential.
Asked about plans to establish Chattogram as the country’s commercial capital, he said the vision spans multiple sectors, including port operations, infrastructure expansion, investment promotion, and job creation.
Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, visiting his home constituency in Cumilla-3 (Muradnagar), assured the public that the government is committed to maintaining price stability, particularly for essential commodities ahead of Ramadan.
“Commodity prices will not go beyond control. The government is fully committed to maintaining price stability,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed the Ministry of Commerce to shield citizens from rising costs.
Kaikobad also highlighted efforts to make the Hajj pilgrimage more accessible and convenient, noting improvements in services and facilities for pilgrims. He emphasised that the government is responsible for safeguarding religious institutions and warned that any attempts to incite unrest would face strict legal action.
Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain outlined plans to bring healthcare services closer to the people, saying patients would no longer need to “chase doctors” for treatment. Speaking in Narsingdi, he pledged to deliver healthcare directly to communities while restructuring the Ministry of Health to eliminate corruption.
The minister highlighted the need to dismantle syndicates within the sector, which hinder equitable service delivery. He also discussed plans to establish a medical college in Narsingdi and add two intensive care units to strengthen critical care services in the district.
Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee urged government employees to provide citizen-friendly services and avoid harassment while performing official duties.
Speaking at Lakshmipur Circuit House, he emphasised the importance of following proper procedures for tenders and maintaining law and order. He announced measures to tackle chronic waterlogging in the district, including dredging of the Bhulua River and Rahmatkhali Canal, as part of an 180-day nationwide programme approved by the prime minister.
Together, the statements from the new ministers reflect a focus on economic growth, public welfare, improved services, and transparent administration. From stabilising commodity prices and enhancing healthcare to boosting infrastructure and promoting sport, the government has signalled a comprehensive agenda to meet public expectations and strengthen institutional performance across the country.
