During the Eid holiday, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid provided medical care to patients in his ancestral village of Motihara, Nawabganj, Dinajpur.

The minister, a specialist physician, began attending to villagers on Sunday evening and continued on Monday morning from 10am.

Residents queued outside his home seeking help for a range of medical issues, including fever, cough, cancer, urological and neurological problems, and heart disease. Patients were given prescriptions and guidance for further tests and treatment.

“I started seeing patients in the courtyard of my home on Sunday evening and continued until 3am. Today I resumed at 10am. It feels rewarding to provide medical care to the villagers during Eid,” said Minister Zahid Hossain.

Despite his local engagement, the minister also participated in official Eid programmes in Dhaka, exchanging greetings with the prime minister and visiting the graves of the late president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia alongside Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before returning to his village. He is expected to head back to Dhaka later in the evening.

Zahid Hossain, elected from the Dinajpur-6 constituency in the 13th parliamentary elections under the BNP banner, represents an area covering Birampur, Nawabganj, Ghoraghat, and Hakimpur-largely rural and agriculture-dependent regions. Motihara village, part of Nawabganj, is surrounded by Sal forests and home to many farming families.
The minister also holds a key position in the BNP Standing Committee and has served as a senior leader in both the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).
