A Myanmar national has been killed in a mine explosion along the zero-line at the Poamuhuri border in Alikadam, Bandarban. A Bangladeshi citizen has also been injured in the explosion, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday evening, Commander Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed of BGB’s Ramu Battalion 30 confirmed the incident. He said the explosion occurred around 10am at the zero-line of the Poamuhuri border in Kurukpata Union.
The deceased, identified as Menthang, 40, hailed from Notunpara in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. The injured individual, Mangsar Mro, 30, was a resident of Garjanpara in Alikadam. He was reportedly a youth from the Mro community.
Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed further explained that the explosion took place west of Border Pillar 55, under the jurisdiction of Ramu Battalion, near Hotawmogpara in Myanmar.
Menthang, who was visiting the area to inspect jhum fields, was killed in the blast, while Mangsar Mro from Bangladesh was injured.
The statement also mentioned that Mangsar Mro has been brought back to his home village, and efforts are underway to take him to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the body of Menthang remains at the scene till the filing of this report.
The BGB has not specified the ethnic community of the deceased Myanmar national.
Between 2023 and August 2025, there have been 17 casualties due to landmine explosions in the Myanmar border area. This includes three injuries in 2023, three in 2024, and 11 injuries up to August 2025.
The most recent incident occurred last Sunday when a BGB member lost a foot. Back in 2024, a Rohingya individual was killed while collecting crabs in the Naf River near Teknaf.
