A 4.1 magnitude tremor hit Dhaka on Thursday morning.
No casualties have been reported.
According to the European Seismological Centre, the earthquake struck Dhaka and Narsingdi districts of Bangladesh at 6:14am. The epicentre was three kilometers north of Narsingdi, at a depth of 30 kilometres.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said that the earthquake was of mild intensity. Its epicentre was in Shibpur of Narsingdi. On the Richter scale, its magnitude was 4.1, the met office said.
From the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of the BMD in Dhaka’s Agargaon, the distance to the epicenter was 38 kilometers to the northeast.
The most recent tremor occurred on Monday (1 December) at 12:55 midnight. On the Richter scale, its magnitude was 4.9. Its epicenter was in Minjin, Myanmar. The quake was felt in Chattogram and some other parts of the country.
Before that, on Thursday (27 November), an earthquake struck the capital. It occurred at 4:15 in the afternoon. According to the Met office, the magnitude on the Richter scale was 3.6. Its epicentre was in Ghorashal under Palash upazila of Narsingdi. On that day, in the early morning, two tremors were also felt in Sylhet and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
Earlier, on 21 November (Friday) and the following Saturday, within about 31 hours, four earthquakes happened in Dhaka and its surrounding areas. Among them, on Friday morning, about 25 kilometers from Dhaka, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale originated in Madhabdi, Narsingdi.
The depth of the epicentre was 10 kilometres beneath the surface. Ten people were killed and more than six hundred were injured across the country.
Most of the earthquakes had their epicentres in Narsingdi.
