Metro trains will operate on a new schedule from Sunday with the operational time extended for half an hour in the morning and night.

“The trains will operate with the extension of half an hour. Everything is alright till now,” Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruk Ahmed told TIMES of Bangladesh on Saturday.

Faruk also said the DMTCL have decided to extend the operational time and increase frequency of trains from Sunday.

According to the new schedule, day’s first train will leave Uttara station at 6:40am and the last train will leave at 9:30pm. The first train will leave at 7am from Motijheel while the last train will leave at 10:10pm.

On Fridays, the metro rail will operate from 2:30pm instead of 3:00pm. Officials said that they have a plan to reduce interval between the arrivals and departures with a total of 238 trips every day from mid-November.

As per new schedule trains will be operated in 4, 6 and 8-minute interval during peak, off-peak and super off-peak hours. On average, more than four lakh commuters use metro rail every day which will go up to five lakh following the new schedule.

Now, 13 sets of trains are running on the Uttara-Motijheel route against 24 set trains. According to the new schedule, 19 sets of trains will run regularly.
