Meta has announced two new features for Facebook Dating, aiming to make online matchmaking easier and less tiring.
The first is a dating assistant powered by AI. The chatbot helps users find more suitable matches by refining searches and offering tailored suggestions. For example, users can type prompts such as “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech” to get specific recommendations. The assistant can also suggest dating ideas and help improve profiles. It will be available under the Matches tab and is rolling out gradually in the US and Canada.
The second feature, called Meet Cute, is designed to reduce “swipe fatigue.” Instead of scrolling endlessly, users receive one surprise match each week, selected by Facebook’s algorithm. They can choose to start a conversation or pass.
Meta says that Facebook Dating is seeing growth among young adults. Hundreds of thousands of users aged 18 to 29 in the US and Canada are creating profiles every month. Matches in this age group have risen by 10 per cent compared to last year.
Facebook dating remains smaller than its competitors. Tinder has around 50 million daily active users, while Hinge has about 10 million. Still, Meta hopes that features like the dating assistant and Meet Cute will attract more people looking for a free and simpler dating experience within the Facebook app.
Other major dating platforms have already introduced AI. Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble are experimenting with tools ranging from AI photo selectors to AI-powered conversation helpers. Meta’s latest move shows how artificial intelligence is becoming a standard part of the modern dating experience.
