Another infant has died with measles symptoms in Sylhet, raising concern over the spread of the disease in the region.
The five-month-21-day-old child died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night.
The child was from the Gobindaganj area of Chhatak in Sunamganj. The latest fatality takes the death toll from measles-like symptoms in Sylhet to two.
Sylhet Divisional Health Directorate Assistant Director of Disease Control Mohammad Nure Alam Shamim said the infant was admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital on Sunday with fever.
“The condition deteriorated on Wednesday, and the child was shifted to the ICU of Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the infant died at night,” he said.
Meanwhile, two new patients were confirmed through laboratory tests in the past 24 hours, according to health officials.
Data from the health department showed that a total of 39 laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded in the division between January 1 and April 6, 2026.
In the same period, 36 new suspected patients were admitted to different hospitals, including 14 at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital.
