The government has appointed Masud Khan as new chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of Ministry of Finance issued a notification on Thursday regarding the appointment.
In addition to the new chairman, three new commissioners have been appointed to the capital market regulatory body.
The newly appointed Commissioners are Nafeez Al Tarik, managing director of Dhaka Bank Securities; Nahid Mahtab, a Supreme Court lawyer; and Tanwir Rahman, director (Finance) of ASA International.
Masud Khan, the incoming chairman, also currently serves as the chairman of multinational organisation Unilever Consumer Care Ltd.
The appointments follow the mass resignation of outgoing BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood and four other commissioners earlier this morning.
In a written statement, Maqsood said he decided to resign for focusing on personal endeavours.
The four commissioners who have resigned from their posts are Md Saifuddin, Farzana Lalarukh, Md Ali Akbar, and Md Mohsin Chowdhury.
The resignations came amid prolonged instability in the capital market, investor dissatisfaction and internal unrest within the commission.
