Bangladesh pace bowler Marufa Akter is expected to return for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match against New Zealand on Friday, following a minor injury sustained during their clash with England.
Despite Bangladesh’s narrow four-wicket defeat, Marufa made a strong impact with the ball, taking two key wickets for just 28 runs in her five overs. She removed England’s Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont early, putting the opposition under considerable pressure.
However, during the latter part of her fifth over, the 20-year-old felt a muscle strain in her leg and was unable to continue bowling. Her absence disrupted Bangladesh’s bowling plans, and the team struggled to claim further breakthroughs in the middle overs, allowing England to recover and secure the win.
A team management source told Cricfrenzy that Marufa is in good condition and is expected to feature in the next match.
“She was ready to bowl towards the end of the England innings, but the management didn’t want to take any risks. She is resting now and is expected to play in the next match,” the source said.
Marufa had already underlined her value in Bangladesh’s tournament opener against Pakistan, taking 3 wickets for just 12 runs in four overs. Her spell included two top-order dismissals, setting the tone for Bangladesh’s seven-wicket win.
With her return anticipated, Bangladesh will hope the young pacer can once again lead the bowling attack and help secure another key result in their campaign.
