Gazi Rakayet’s new film, ‘Manushtike Dekh’, is set for country-wide release on April 14, coinciding with Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year.
Rakayet, known for ‘Mrittika Maya’ (2013) and ‘Gor’ (2020), returns with a project aimed at raising awareness about cerebral palsy and challenging stigma surrounding people with disabilities. The film is produced with support from the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP).
Written originally by British filmmaker Elspeth Waldie, the screenplay was translated into Bangla by producer Humayun Farid, with Rakayet and Farid co-editing and adapting the dialogue.
The story follows Farida, a journalist with a disability who runs an organisation for children with disabilities. Her life changes when she meets Firoz, a wealthy admirer, while another disabled man, Abdul, is falsely implicated in a crime. Farida fights to clear Abdul’s name while facing opposition from Firoz’s father.
The film features an ensemble cast including Rashna Sharmin Camey, Tahmid Arefin Haque, Tariq Anam Khan, Mili Bashar, Mamunur Rashid, Shatabdi Wadud, Lara Lotus and others.
