A man named Abdul Kuddus, 50, was hacked to death with sharp weapons over a previous enmity linked to money transactions in East Jurain of the capital.
The incident took place on Thursday around 11pm in front of Popy Kinder Garten and High School in Noboron Goli under Kadamtali Police Station. Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around midnight.
The deceased hailed from Kutubpur village under Shibchar upazila of Madaripur. His father was Abdul Malek. He lived on rent at Darogabari Road in East Jurain. He worked as a bus driver.
Victim’s younger brother Abdul Hashem said Kuddus was sitting at a tea stall near Popi School and drinking tea on Thursday night. Power was out at the time. Around 8–10 attackers entered the tea stall. They first fired blank shots. They then hacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons and left the scene.
Locals and relatives later took him to hospital after receiving information, but doctors confirmed him dead.
He further said Kuddus sustained at least 120 injury marks from sharp weapons and was killed in a brutal manner. However, he said they could not identify the attackers.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kadamtali Police Station Md Sohel Rana said the killing took place inside a tea stall on Thursday night over previous enmity linked to money transactions.
He said a murder case is under process. Police are trying to arrest those involved. The body has been kept at the morgue for post-mortem examination.
