A man allegedly beaten and hacked three people to death, including his grandmother and aunt, in Aliabad, Faridpur.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter. The incident took place at around 10pm on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Akash Molla, 28. The three victims are Akash Molla’s grandmother Amena Begum, 75, his aunt Rahela Begum, 55, and a neighbour, Kabul Chowdhury, 49.
Two others, identified as Riazul Islam, 38 and Arjina Begum, 38 were injured in the incident. Locals rescued them and admitted them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Aliabad Union Parishad (UP) Member Md Razzak Sheikh said Akash was formerly employed as a peon at the Faridpur Tuberculosis Hospital. He was a mentally unstable. For this reason, he was never married.
OC Shahidul said, “The accused, Akash, is at large. Multiple teams are working in the field to apprehend him.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Faridpur Md Shamsul Azam visited the scene. At around 11:45pm, he reported that the bodies were being recovered and placed in police vehicles. They will be transported to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
