A mobile court fined a businessman Tk1 lakh on Monday for illegally hoarding fuel and selling it above government-fixed prices in Singair upazila of Manikganj.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Khairunnahar fined the owner, Md Milon Mahmud, under the Consumer Rights Protection Act after finding evidence of illegal collection and overpricing.
The drive was conducted on a tip-off, and took place from 3:30pm to 10:30pm at Sirajpur Bazar in Chandahar union.
Authorities seized 24 drums of octane, petrol, diesel, and kerosene from a warehouse owned by M/S Mahmud Enterprise.
The seized fuel has been kept under the custody of Singair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mazharul Islam.
It is being sold at government rates in the presence of officials, with proceeds to be deposited into the government treasury.
Khairunnahar said such drives will continue in the public interest.
