Police recovered the hanging body of a man from the Sagarika Flyover in Chattogram city.
Pahartali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Absar confirmed the matter on Wednesday. The body was retrieved from the section of the flyover adjacent to the BSRM depot around 3:30am.
The deceased has been identified as Abu Kawsar, 27. He worked as a security guard at the BSRM factory.
OC Nurul said, “According to the family members, Kawsar had been addicted to drugs for a long time and was suffering from mental health issues.” No injury marks were found on his body.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, several former leaders of the banned Chhatra League’s Chattogram city unit claimed on Facebook that the deceased was named Kawsar Ahmed. They identified him as the Liberation War Affairs Secretary of Akbar Shah Thana Chhatra League and alleged that he was murdered in a planned manner before his body was hung from the flyover.
Dismissing these claims, OC Nurul said the family identified the deceased as Abu Kawsar and did not report any political affiliation.
The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy and later handed over to the family. An unnatural death case has been filed at the police station.
