Manchester City asserted their dominance over Manchester United with a 3-0 victory in the latest Premier League Manchester derby on 14 September at the Etihad Stadium. Foden broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, meeting Jeremy Doku’s cross after the Belgian winger navigated past United’s defence. Haaland added City’s second in the 53rd minute, cleverly chipping the ball over goalkeeper Altay Bayindir following a precise pass from Doku. The 25-year-old completed his brace in the 68th minute after outpacing Harry Maguire to meet Bernardo Silva’s through ball and slot the ball past Bayindir.
Haaland, who has now scored seven goals this week for club and country, nearly completed a hat-trick when he hit the post late in the game, but the striker had already celebrated a remarkable milestone: his 50th goal in his 50th home Premier League appearance, a feat only Alan Shearer achieved faster, in 47 games. The victory followed a remarkable international week for Haaland, who scored five goals in Norway’s 11-1 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova.
City dominated the match, registering six shots on target to United’s two, with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma making several important saves, including a brilliant second-half stop from Bryan Mbeumo. The win lifted City to eighth in the table with two victories from four matches, while United remain 14th with just one win.
