Police have arrested a man for allegedly tying up and raping a third-grade student in Sudharam upazila of Noakhali.
The accused, Nurul Amin Sujan, is a 30-year-old mason and father of two.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Touhidul Islam of Sudharam Model Police Station confirmed the arrest.
The victim’s mother filed the complaint with Sudharam Model Police Station on Sunday.
She said her son did not return home after school that afternoon.
The family started searching for him. They later found the boy coming out of Sujan’s house in a dishevelled state in the Dana Miar Bazar area.
His clothes were soiled and his hair was messy.
The child told his mother that Sujan forcibly took him from the roadside on his way home from school. The accused then allegedly tied his hands and feet and raped him.
The mother alleged that Sujan had attempted to assault her son on several previous occasions.
Police detained Sujan from the local area on Monday.
“The accused is in custody,” OC Islam said. “We are processing a rape case against him.”
Police said they acted immediately after receiving the allegation. The investigation is ongoing.
