A court has sent each of the five arrested accused, including two shooters involved in the murder of top terrorist Tariq Saif Mamun in Old Dhaka, on a four-day remand.
On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed this order after a hearing. On that day, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Md Sazzad Hossain of the DB Police Kotwali Zonal Team, applied for a 10-day remand for the accused. Police filed the case under the Arms Act at Mohammadpur Police Station against them.
The accused for whom remand was sought are: Md Faruq Hossain Faisal (38), Robin Ahmed alias Piyas (25), Md Rubel (34), Shamim Ahmed (22), and Md Yusuf Jibon (42). DB Police arrested the accused from various areas yesterday, 11 November.
On this day, the defence lawyers, Niaz Morshed Roman and Niaz Sheikh Farid, applied for bail, seeking the cancellation of the remand. During the hearing, they argued that Mamun’s family had not filed any case regarding the murder.
Since the weapon has been recovered, there is no necessity for a remand. On the other hand, the state lawyer, Jamal Uddin Marjin, opposed this. The state side applied for the maximum remand during the hearing.
According to the remand application, on 10 November, around 11am, Tariq Saif Mamun (55) was shot and killed in front of the National Medical College Hospital under Sutrapur Police Station in the capital. The accused were detained for their involvement in this murder.
During interrogation, the accused admitted their involvement in the murder. The weapon and bullets used in the murder were recovered from under the wardrobe at the residence of accused Md Yusuf Jibon in Mohammadpur’s Rayerbazar.
The accused admitted that Robin and Faruq shot Mamun multiple times with the intention to kill, ensuring his death. They received Tk2 lakh from elder brother Rony for the murder. Sub-Inspector Krishna Kumar Das of the Lalbagh Division DB filed the case as the plaintiff regarding the incident.
