The second edition of the NCL T20 tournament began on 14 September but was quickly interrupted, with no matches taking place after the opening day due to adverse weather conditions. The competition resumed in its second phase on 26 September.
During this period, Mahmudullah Riyad was forced to withdraw after playing just one match because of a knee injury. This year’s NCL T20 is being hosted across two venues in Sylhet. Representing Dhaka Metro, Mahmudullah returned to Dhaka after featuring in a single game. He scored 41 runs off 22 balls against Chattogram Division on 27 September, but was unable to continue in the tournament.
Although the injury ruled him out of further participation, sources have confirmed that it is not considered serious. Mahmudullah is currently undergoing rehabilitation as per a structured programme.
He is scheduled to travel to the United States on 5 October to compete in a franchise tournament, the Atlanta T20. This information was confirmed to Dhaka Post by a source within the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
In parallel, there has been speculation regarding Mahmudullah potentially joining the national selection panel, which currently has only two members. However, this remains a rumour, and reliable sources have indicated that Mahmudullah plans to remain active in cricket for another one to two years.
Earlier this month, he also completed the BCB Level 3 Coaching Course, further preparing for life beyond his playing career.
