Health assistants in Madaripur are observing their fourth consecutive day of indefinite strike on Saturday, to press home their six-point demand, including amendments to recruitment rules.
The protest, organised under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Health Assistant Association’, is taking place at the entrances of five upazila health complexes across the district since 9am.
The health workers have warned they will intensify their movement if their demands are not addressed immediately.
Their demands include revising recruitment rules, placement in the 14th grade, promotion to the 11th grade through in-service diploma training, recognition of technical rank, ensuring continuous promotions to higher grades and recognising a bachelor’s degree in science as a qualification.
