Police have recovered the decomposed body of a 55-year-old woman, Selina Afroze, from a flat in Pallabi area of the capital.
Officials said she likely died several days ago before the body was discovered. Her husband and two children live in Canada, while she lived alone in the apartment.
Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Hanif confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.
He said police recovered the body on Wednesday after receiving information from a flat in Block C of Road No. 10 under Section 6 of Pallabi. The body was found in a decomposed condition. It was later sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College for autopsy.
Police said her husband Mominul Haque and their two children have been living in Canada for a long time. Due to family disputes, Selina Afroze stayed alone in her paternal flat. She returned from Canada 12 years ago and had been living alone in the same flat since then.
Police and family sources said she had been living alone in a flat of the inherited building for a long time. Her sister lived in another flat on the fourth floor.
The last known contact with her was on 26 May around 11pm, when she spoke with her nephew Ashfakur Rahman. After that, no communication was made with her.
Earlier, police recovered another decomposed body of a woman from a flat in Road No. 13 of Section 6 in Pallabi. She had four children, including a joint secretary, a BUET teacher, and a Canada-based son, while her schoolteacher daughter lived with her mother.
