On his first working day, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We will fulfill our commitment to the people. The government is accountable to the people; its main goal is to serve the people. With everyone’s cooperation, existing problems will be eliminated, and local government elections will be held as soon as possible.”
He made these remarks while responding to questions from media personnel on his first working day at his office in the ministry on Wednesday. State Minister Mir Shah Alam and Ministry Secretary Rezaul Maqsud Zayed, along with senior officials, were present at the time.
He further said, “We will work to run the government according to the expectations of the people of Bangladesh and the directives given by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The government will work on the problems that people had, including issues of farmers, working people, working women, and unemployment, among others.”
In response to another question, he said, “The law-and-order situation and the economy of the country are not as bad as is being thought. Additionally, mob culture will not be allowed; law enforcement agencies are becoming capable of rebuilding their position of trust. Above all, we will continue to properly fulfill the responsibility entrusted to us by the prime minister. Rising above everything, cooperation from everyone, irrespective of party or opinion, is necessary. People’s participation is essential for the country’s development.”
