Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Kumar Das has surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim to become Bangladesh’s record-holder for the most stumpings in Test cricket.
Litton had equalled Mushfiqur’s tally of 15 stumpings during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last June, when he dismissed opener Lahiru Udara off a sharp take behind the stumps.
On 11 November, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Litton broke the record by stumping Lorcan Tucker off Hasan Murad’s bowling. He then added another to his tally by removing Andy McBrine in the 17th over off Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Across all formats, Mushfiqur Rahim still leads the way for Bangladesh with 101 stumpings — a figure that places him fourth on the all-time global list. Only India’s MS Dhoni (195) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (139) and Romesh Kaluwitharana (101) are ahead of him.
Former captain Khaled Mashud Pilot sits second among Bangladeshi wicketkeepers with 44 stumpings in all formats, while Litton now follows with 34.
The world record for most stumpings in Tests remains with Australia’s Bert Oldfield, who achieved 52 stumpings in 54 matches between 1920 and 1937.
