The Lions Club of Chittagong Dynamic City and the Salma Adil Foundation (SAF) have completed free cataract surgeries for 54 patients at the Chattagram Lions Charitable Eye Hospital and Institute of Ophthalmology, the organisations said in a press release. The procedures were conducted in two phases, and each patient received a one-month supply of medication and corrective eyeglasses as part of post-operative care. All patients are reported to be in stable condition and recovering well.
The initiative follows a large-scale eye medical camp at Sharifunnessa-Naziruddin High School in Fatehnagar, Chandanaish, organised by the Lions Club with support from SAF. The camp provided primary eye care services to approximately 650 local residents. During screening, 85 patients were identified with cataract-related complications requiring surgical intervention, of which 54 underwent surgeries in the first phase. The remaining patients will receive treatment in successive phases, the press release said.
Specialist ophthalmologists performed the surgeries, reinforcing the organisations’ commitment to providing accessible and high-quality medical care to underserved communities. The programme highlights a sustained effort to address preventable blindness and improve eye health outcomes in the region.
