Law enforcement agencies have arrested a fugitive accused who was sentenced to life imprisonment 29 years ago in Noakhali.
The arrested individual Md Yasin, 55, is the son of the late Atiq Ullah from South Deliai village of Chatkhil upazila.
Police have stated that the accused will be handed over to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in the afternoon.
Prior to this, on Monday evening, Chatkhil Thana Police arrested him from the Chaumuhani bus stand area of Begumganj with the assistance of RAB-11.
Police reported that on February 25, 1996, the District and Sessions Judge Court sentenced him to life imprisonment with hard labor and a fine of Tk10,000 in a murder case filed with Lakshmipur Sadar Thana. Since the verdict was announced, he had been in hiding in various areas.
After his arrest, during interrogation, Yasin revealed his identity and admitted to being a wanted accused.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatkhil Thana, Mohammad Firoz Uddin Chowdhury said the accused was arrested through a special operation conducted with the assistance of RAB-11. He is a wanted accused sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor and a fine of Tk10,000. He had been hiding in various places under disguise for all this time. He also mentioned that Yasin will be sent to prison through the court.
