At least 21 people have died and seven others were injured after a landslide hit a village in China’s northwestern Gansu province, according to state-run media on Wednesday.
The landslide occurred in Renzang village of Longnan city in Tanchang county on Tuesday, burying 33 people beneath the debris.
Rescue teams managed to pull five people out alive without injuries, Xinhua reported. Authorities have now concluded rescue operations at the site.
The latest deaths have pushed the nationwide toll from floods, thunderstorms and landslides over the past two days to 36, according to Xinhua. The seven injured victims are undergoing treatment at local hospitals.
Following the disaster, authorities dispatched multiple rescue teams to the affected area, including emergency responders, firefighters and police personnel.
