LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB) has introduced Holcim Coastal Guard, a salinity- and sulphate-resistant cement aimed at addressing structural deterioration in Bangladesh’s coastal areas.

Commercial and Logistics Director Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque inaugurated the product at a hotel in Khulna, the company said in a press release.

Speaking at the event, Hoque said the product was developed through consumer engagement and research focused on the impact of saline and sulphate exposure on structures.

Holcim Coastal Guard has been developed through LHB’s in-house manufacturing and innovation capabilities in collaboration with the Holcim Group Innovation Center in Lyon, France, using Smart Blend Technology.

The company said the cement is designed to resist sulphate- and chloride-rich soils, saline groundwater in coastal environments and chemical exposure in water and effluent treatment facilities.

Raquib Ahsan, professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, attended the launch as a special guest.

More than 160 engineers, architects, academicians and industry professionals were present, and a technical seminar followed the unveiling.

Head of Innovation and Technical Services Fakhruddin Md Khan, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Head of BECM Department Md Habibur Rahman Sabuz, Associate Professor SM Nazimuddin Payel and Regional Sales Manager Mohammad Kali were also present, the press release said.
