Chattogram Custom House collected Tk27,995.52 crore in revenue in the first four months of FY2026-27, falling Tk14,641.65 crore short of its target despite recording 6.99 per cent year-on-year growth.
The country’s largest customs station achieved 65.65 per cent of its Tk42,637.17 crore target between July and October, leaving 34.35 per cent uncollected, according to comparative revenue statistics.
Collections rose by Tk1,828.92 crore from Tk26,166.60 crore in the same period of the previous financial year. However, monthly performance was uneven, with declines in July and September offset by gains in August and October.
In July, revenue collection fell 6.78 per cent to Tk6,925.69 crore from Tk7,429.38 crore a year earlier. It rebounded 29.29 per cent in August to Tk7,096.90 crore from Tk5,489.27 crore, before dropping 14.86 per cent in September to Tk6,765.05 crore from Tk7,954.52 crore.
October recorded the strongest growth, with collections rising 35.94 per cent to Tk7,207.88 crore from Tk5,302.43 crore in October 2025.
Sharif Mohammad Al Amin, assistant commissioner and spokesperson for Chattogram Custom House, described the growth as encouraging and said officials were working to streamline customs operations to sustain the trend.
He said revenue collection depended largely on import activity and the volume of goods cleared through customs.
“If import activities remain stable and the current growth trend continues, there is a strong possibility of achieving the revenue target,” he said.
The customs house is also operating with a narrower revenue base following changes to its jurisdiction.
Previously, it handled customs operations at private inland container depots (ICDs), as well as the airport and air freight station at Chattogram Airport. After the establishment of the separate Custom House ICD, Chattogram, 22 private ICDs and the airport-related customs facilities were transferred to the new entity.
Revenue from imported goods cleared through these facilities is now credited to Custom House ICD, Chattogram, rather than Chattogram Custom House.
Although exports do not generate customs revenue, duties and taxes on imported goods cleared through the ICDs remain an important source of revenue for customs authorities.
Custom House ICD, Chattogram, collected Tk1,857.47 crore in the first four months of FY2026-27, according to the figures provided.
