Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee has raised concerns about the absence of elected representatives, stating that it is leading to challenges at every level of governance.
Speaking at a brief gathering after inspecting the Khal Bhangan area in Dighuli Union of Lakshmipur on Friday Anee, also the BNP Joint Secretary General, emphasised that the upcoming Union Parishad elections would be particularly difficult.
“Without elected representatives, we are facing problems at every level. This upcoming local election will be a significant challenge, one that will be remembered,” Anee said, referring to the previous national elections as another tough contest.
He also noted that this year’s Union Parishad elections will be held without party symbols, stressing the importance of candidates being people-oriented and focused on public welfare. “Any candidate wishing to run for chairman must prioritise the welfare of the people,” he added.
Anee further remarked that, given that local government elections could be announced at any time, the role of elected representatives at the Union level should not be underestimated. “Our future is tied to the elected representatives at the Union Parishad level. We must not take this election lightly,” he concluded.
The event was also attended by Bangladesh Football Federation Vice President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, along with local BNP leaders and activists.
