Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets on Friday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with Virat Kohli scoring 81 and reaching 10,000 T20 runs in India during a successful chase of 205. His innings combined accumulation with boundary hitting to control the run rate.
Kohli built the chase through controlled shot selection and strike rotation. He targeted gaps and converted deliveries into boundaries when bowlers missed length. This approach reduces required run rate pressure by maintaining consistent scoring rather than relying only on big hits.
He added key partnerships, including a stand with Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 55 from 27 balls. Their combination balanced aggression and stability, which allowed Bengaluru to keep pace with the target. The side completed the chase with seven balls remaining.
Kohli reached the 10,000-run mark in T20 cricket within a single country, a first in the format. He achieved the milestone across matches for Bengaluru in the IPL and Champions League T20, Delhi in domestic competition, and India in international cricket. Rohit Sharma holds the second-highest tally in one country with 8,563 runs.
He also set IPL records during the innings. He became the first player to hit 800 fours in the competition and reached 300 sixes for Bengaluru. These milestones reflect long-term consistency rather than a single season peak.
Gujarat posted 205 for three, led by Sai Sudharsan, who scored 100 from 58 balls. Shubman Gill added 32 to support the total. Bengaluru responded with a structured chase that relied on sustained scoring phases.
Kohli’s boundary tally places him first in IPL fours, ahead of Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner. He also ranks third in all-time IPL sixes, behind Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle.
