Nearly two decades after Keeping Up With the Kardashians transformed reality television, Khloé Kardashian is stepping behind the camera with her new unscripted series, The Girls: A Khloé Kardashian Project, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Premiering Friday on Hulu and Disney+, the show follows six women — Nicole Williams English, Olivia Pierson, Khadijah Haqq-McCray, Natalie Halcro, Malika Haqq and Yris Palmer — as they navigate motherhood, relationships, careers and friendship.
Kardashian serves as executive producer and narrator while making occasional appearances, but she deliberately keeps herself out of the spotlight.
“I didn’t want it to feel like a Kardashian spinoff,” she told The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that the series is designed to showcase the women and their own relationships.
However, producing the show was more complicated than she expected.
Kardashian admitted she was surprised by the tensions that emerged among the friends, particularly between Natalie Halcro and Yris Palmer.
“I thought it would be a much more seamless process, and it wasn’t,” she said, adding that some of the conflicts felt “so fucking middle school”.
The series also features appearances from Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kris Jenner, reflecting their existing friendships with the cast.
Despite her experience in reality television, Kardashian said she remains uninterested in acting.
She recalled being “traumatised” by an acting class featured on Keeping Up With the Kardashians but praised sisters Kim and Kylie for pursuing acting.
Kardashian also plans to continue producing reality projects outside her family and will return with season three of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, later this year.
