Khelafat Majlis has announced its withdrawal from the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, saying the alliance’s activities have concluded following the completion of the election process.
The decision was taken at a general meeting of the party’s central Majlis-e-Shura held at the Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Khelafat Majlis said the purpose and effectiveness of the 11-party alliance had ended after the election.
The party said it would no longer take part in any programmes organised under the alliance banner.
However, the party added that it would consider joining a broader political platform in the future if such an initiative becomes necessary in the interest of the country, its people, and Islam.
The development comes after Khelafat Majlis earlier raised objections over the use of its name and that of its leaders in alliance programmes.
Following a divisional rally of the 11-party alliance in Chattogram on 13 June, the party informed alliance leaders that its name and the names of its leaders should not be used in future campaign materials or publicity.
Later, the party objected when its name appeared in publicity for a rally in Rangpur, following which the reference was removed.
