Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep condolences to BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman following the death of his mother and the party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
On Friday night, Shafiqur visited Tarique Rahman at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan to offer his sympathies. The Jamaat ameer was accompanied by a four-member delegation from his party.
After signing the condolence book on the office’s ground floor, which had been set up in memory of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Shafiqur met with Tarique Rahman.
The two leaders held a nearly one-hour meeting, during which they discussed the current political situation in the country and reflected on the life and contributions of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Among those present at the meeting were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed.
In addition to Shafiqur, the Jamaat delegation included the party’s candidate for Dhaka-12, Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Assistant Secretary General Ehsan Mahbub Jubayer, and Mobarak Hossain.
Shibir leaders meet Tarique Rahman
Prior to the Jamaat delegation’s visit, President of Islami Chhatra Shibir Nurul Islam Saddam, along with Ducsu VP Shadik Kayem, visited the Gulshan office. They signed the condolence before meeting Tarique Rahman.
After the meeting, Saddam told reporters, “We pray for the salvation of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s soul. We met with Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and discussed various national issues, particularly concerning student politics.”
He further added, “Tarique Rahman has shared his expectations on various matters with us. We are delighted and hopeful that we can remain united for the country’s welfare and work for Bangladesh’s future, irrespective of party affiliations and opinions.”
