BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is likely to be laid to rest beside her husband late President Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed shared the information with the media on Tuesday.
He said Khaleda Zia’s namaz-e-janaza is likely to be held on Wednesday at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka after Johr prayers.
“After the janaza, she may be buried next to her husband, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan,” Salahuddin said.
Khaleda Zia, a three-time former prime minister and BNP chairperson, passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital.
She was admitted to the hospital on 23 November. As her condition worsened on 27 November, she was shifted to the ICU where she remained on life support until her death.
Born on 15 August, 1945, Khaleda Zia was Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister and the second woman prime minister in the Muslim world after Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan.
Details of the funeral arrangements and burial will be finalised following consultations with the family and party leadership, BNP leaders said.
