BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, is not in stable condition, said the party’s Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas.
However, she has been able to recognise those who came to see her, the BNP leader said.
Mirza Abbas, after visiting Khaleda shortly after midnight on Friday, said, “Madam’s health fluctuates – sometimes better and sometimes worse. Personally, I believe she is not stable at this moment. With more advanced treatment, she might improve.”
“We tried to speak with her from a distance. She recognised us and replied when we greeted her,” he said.
Former prime minister Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November and is currently being treated in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
Earlier, BNP leader Abdul Moyeen Khan confirmed that the medical board overseeing her treatment comprising both local and foreign specialists had reviewed her latest condition and was taking necessary measures. Doctors have reported infections in her heart and lungs.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described her condition as “very critical” on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed concern and urged the nation to pray for her recovery. Law Adviser Asif Nazrul also visited Evercare Hospital to inquire about her condition.
