BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday said former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia never compromised her political ideals despite facing persecution, oppression, torture and imprisonment.
“An anti‑people force subjected her to oppression and torture. She was kept in a dilapidated jail. Even then, she did not abandon her duties, political thoughts, or uncompromising stance. She could not be forced to compromise,” Rizvi said.
He made the remarks at a milad and doa mahfil organised by the BNP at its central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, to mark Khaleda Zia’s 81st birth anniversary.
Rizvi described Khaleda Zia as a historic figure who represented ordinary people, symbolised independence and sovereignty, and embodied democracy.
BNP leaders including Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Ahmed Azam Khan, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, and Habib‑un‑Nabi Khan Sohel attended the programme.
