Actors Khairul Basar and Sadia Ayman were once one of the most talked-about pairings on the small screen, with rumours of a romantic relationship following their frequent appearances together.
Although the two had long avoided confirming the speculation, Basar has now revealed that they were indeed in a relationship.
Speaking on a podcast, the actor said his relationship with Sadia began several years ago but has since ended.
Basar said the two first met while working on an advertisement, before either had become regular faces in television dramas.
Their professional relationship eventually developed into a romantic one.
Explaining why they had previously dismissed reports about their relationship as rumours, Basar said, “Back then, we would brush it off as a rumour. Because when something is good, it does not always remain good. It becomes difficult to keep it that way. That is why I avoided talking about it. But yes, I was in a relationship with Sadia.”
Basar did not disclose why the relationship ended, saying he preferred not to discuss the details.
The couple’s sudden absence from one another’s projects had also sparked speculation among viewers.
Basar has now explained that they mutually decided to stop working together after their relationship ended.
“I felt that it was better for us not to work together. We are not working together because it is better for both of us. The audience wants to see us together, but I have to work naturally, and she also needs to feel comfortable. To be honest, we no longer have that space,” he said.
According to Basar, the emotional complications following their breakup made working together professionally uncomfortable.
As a result, they have chosen not to reunite on screen despite continued audience interest.
Basar and Sadia became a popular on-screen pairing in television dramas in the years following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Their projects Dub Satar, Babui Pakhir Basa, Jal Taranga, Doi Fuchka and The First Case were particularly well received by viewers.
Despite their professional success as a pair, Basar’s latest revelation makes it clear that, for now, the two have chosen to keep their personal and professional lives apart.
