Amid ongoing unrest in Khagrachhari, Supradip Chakma, Adviser to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, has urged unity between hill communities and Bengalis to restore peace and stability in the region.

Speaking at a special law and order meeting on Sunday morning at the Khagrachhari district administration office, the adviser emphasised the need for strict enforcement of law and order.

“I urge the administration to take firm measures to prevent further loss of life and property. Everyone must remain alert to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” he said.

The unrest follows the alleged rape of a Marma schoolgirl, which has sparked widespread protests and an indefinite road blockade across the district. Protesters have set up barricades at several key points, halting all vehicular movement.

While no untoward incidents have been reported so far, the overall atmosphere remains tense, with growing public concern. In response, the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police have been deployed to maintain security.

Authorities have requested residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, as part of efforts to avoid further escalation.
