Former Indian cricketer Mithun Manhas has been appointed president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 45-year-old becomes the 37th president of the BCCI, taking over from Roger Binny, who stepped down last month upon turning 70.
Manhas, who played domestic cricket for Delhi, never represented India at the international level. He boasts extensive experience in first-class and List A cricket, alongside 55 IPL appearances. Over his career, he scored 27 centuries and 49 fifties. He was instrumental in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2007–08 season, amassing 921 runs.
During his IPL career, Manhas represented three franchises: Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Pune Warriors India (now defunct), and Chennai Super Kings. He is only the third former cricketer to assume the BCCI president’s role, following Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny. Ganguly has recently begun his second term as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal.
After retiring from professional cricket, Manhas remained active in coaching. He served as assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and later as batting coach for the Bangladesh Under-19 team. In 2019, he was assistant coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore and in 2022 for Gujarat Titans.
