Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has appointed former National Board of Revenue (NBR) Tax Commissioner Kazi Imdadul Haque as Director General on a contractual basis with secretary status, effective Sunday.
He joined the organisation on Sunday after retiring from the civil service, according to official information.
A senior officer of the 7th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Taxes cadre, he served more than three decades in revenue administration.
He previously held key roles including President of the Taxes Appellate Tribunal and Tax Commissioner at NBR.
He contributed to internal resource mobilisation during his tenure at NBR and while serving as Additional Commissioner at the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU). He also represented Bangladesh in international discussions on tax policy and Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAA).
He served as Private Secretary to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications from 2001 to 2004.
He graduated with first class first in MSc in Soil, Water and Environment from the University of Dhaka.
He was active in literary and cultural activities during his university years, winning national competitions and participating in televised debates.
He authored the research-based book ‘Kalo Taka’ (Black Money), which has drawn wide discussion.
He continues to contribute to public awareness through income tax-related programmes on television.
