National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has pledged to ensure justice for the family of a six-year-old girl murdered in the capital’s Rampura area.
The child’s body was recovered from the Ulon area on 24 February after reports of brutal torture.
Nahid visited the bereaved family on Friday night, met the victim’s mother and listened to a detailed account of the incident.
He said some personal and local disputes had been mentioned, but refrained from making advance comments without proper investigation and evidence.
“We will ensure justice for the murder of this girl at any cost,” he said, adding that the same assurance had been given to the child’s mother.
He said those involved, directly or indirectly, would be brought to justice regardless of their social status or influence.
“No matter how influential they are, whether a landlord or anyone else, that will not be considered,” he said.
Nahid said he had been in contact with the Officer-in-Charge of the relevant police station since 24 February, the day of the incident.
He said the police administration would work impartially to ensure a swift trial.
Law enforcement agencies are examining several suspects and one person has already been arrested.
He expressed hope that the remaining suspects would be detained soon, describing the pursuit of justice as a collective promise.
