A child named Ayan Mohammad Jawzi (10) died after falling from the fourth floor of a house in the capital’s Rampura area.

The incident occurred in the Rampura Woolen Market area on Thursday around 2pm. When relatives brought the child to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, the doctor declared him dead around 3:15pm.

At the hospital, the deceased child’s uncle, Jahangir Hossain, said the family lives on the 4th floor of their own 6-story building in the Woolen Market area. The child was physically disabled and was the youngest of three siblings.

He further said, although there are 5th and 6th floors, no other construction work has been done. In the afternoon, without the family’s knowledge, Ayan went to the 5th floor unnoticed. From there, he suddenly fell through the elevator shaft.

Seeing this, relatives rescued him and first took him to Better Life Hospital. When they brought him to Dhaka Medical College from there, the doctor declared him dead.

The in-charge (Inspector) of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, Md Faruq, confirmed the death and said the child’s body is being kept in the morgue.
